Legal & Operational Framework

How Leap Works: The Legal Foundation

A transparent look at how we safely, legally, and ethically connect teenagers with hands-on learning experiences in partner cafes.

Legal Compliance

The law we sit inside

India's Child Labour Act blocks individuals under the age of 18 from being regular cafe employees, so we do not place teens as staff.

Instead, we operate under the Apprentices Act 1961. This legal framework allows teens aged 14 and above to work as registered apprentices in approved trades like Food and Beverage Service. This system comes with strict caps on working hours, a mandatory stipend, robust safety rules, and a formal curriculum.

Legal Precedent

By utilizing the Apprentices Act 1961, Leap transitions teen engagement from standard employment into a structured, government-approved vocational training program.

Our company structure

To keep operations smooth and fully compliant, we split the platform technology from the actual legal employment framework.

The Apprentice Journey

How an apprenticeship actually runs

From digital signup to formal certification, here is the step by step process of how teens gain real world experience on Leap.

Digital Onboarding

A teen signs up on Leap. Parental consent is collected digitally and stored securely by Company A to ensure complete transparency before any placement begins.

Official Registration

Company B registers the teen as an apprentice on apprenticeshipindia.gov.in under Food and Beverage Service. They match them to a partner cafe and sign a one page venue agreement with that venue.

Compliant Learning

The teen works at the cafe within strict legal limits regarding hours, tasks, and safety. They learn on the job following the NCVT curriculum and receive a monthly stipend paid out by Company B.

Government Certification

At the end of the program, the teen gets a government recognized NCVT certificate. This official document proves their completed apprenticeship and validates their newly acquired skills.

Keeping Venues Secure and Teens Protected

How cafés and regulators stay comfortable

Cafés are treated as venues, not employers. They do not register individually on the government portal or run their own complex compliance. If a labour inspector visits, the café simply shows the venue agreement with Company B and points to the apprentice’s active registration. All formal paperwork and legal liability sit entirely with Company B. Over time, Leap will also seek endorsements and pilots with bodies like NSDC and industry associations to add extra legitimacy on top of this legal base.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this program fully compliant with Indian labor laws?

Yes. India’s Child Labour Act blocks individuals under 18 from being standard café employees. Leap completely bypasses this by utilizing the Apprentices Act 1961, allowing teenagers aged 14 and above to legally engage as registered apprentices in the Food and Beverage Service trade.

Does our café carry any legal or labor liability?

No. Your café is legally structured as a training venue, not an employer. Company B is registered as the single Principal Employer on the government portal, signs all agreements, and absorbs 100% of the legal and labor liability.

How do teen payments and stipends work?

Partner cafés do not pay the teenagers directly. Cafés make payments to Company B, and Company B handles the compliant payout of mandatory monthly stipends directly to the apprentices.

Can a parent track or cancel their child's participation?

Absolutely. Parents have full visibility through the platform to see exactly where their child is placed and their logged hours. If they wish to stop participation, they can instantly revoke consent directly through the Leap website.
